Financial Experts: College Fund Planning ? CBS Detroit

With back-to-school on everyone?s mind, it is never too early to start thinking about college tuition. First Forecast Mornings? financial expert Jeff Ivory says there are many ways to plan for the future.

He says you should start planning when kids are in kindergarten or earlier.? Michigan has two main programs.? Both offer tax advantages for saving for college.

The Michigan Education Trust (MET) program allows parents to lock in today?s college tuition prices. The Michigan 529 Program allows the funds to be transfers to any college in the us and in other countries.

Don?t forget to go for scholarships. Researching the programs early is a great idea.

For families who didn?t start when their children were young, there are grants, loans and federal aid.
