In some cases, both of you may be even be tempted to having sex again - a platonic type of sex with no strings attached (though, of course, there always are). Although there are all kinds of things that you can tell yourself to make the whole situation seem pleasant, the truth is that having sex with one's ex ultimately leads to unwelcome emotions. And regardless of how much you tell yourself that it was a rational decision, you're still you're going to feel horrible if he fails to call you back in the following days - which isn't wrong since both of you are "just friends" now.

Aside from sex, dating is also another problem. In any case, even if you can keep your relationship with your former boyfriend strictly platonic, what do you think is going to happen once he finds a new girl to date? Progressives and the mainstream media were quick to come to the aid of the president by stating that similar statements have been said by other entrepreneurial moguls, such as Henry Ford, Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Andrew Carnegie and Walter Chrysler. Others excused Obama by saying he "borrowed" his business verbiage from Democratic Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren.

No one is denying the genius of collective contributions or the power of working together. One of my favorite acronyms is TEAM, which stands for "together everyone achieves more." But the key difference between Obama's reference to teamwork and all the rest of those inspirational innovators' references to teamwork is that the latter ones were regarding other individuals' collaborative efforts within their own entrepreneurialism, whereas Obama's was pointing to politicians -- specifically the federal government -- as the business associates responsible for your success.

Look for yourself at how Obama progressively unveiled "government" as the "somebody" in his speech (with italics added for emphasis):

In fact, Obama's belief in government partnership -- indeed, ownership -- is at the heart of his justification to increase taxes on couples who make more than $250,000 a year, a levy that an Ernst & Young study just showed would cost 710,000 U.S. jobs.

Obama's business comments were an assault on free enterprise and entrepreneurialism. They were not a gaffe; they represent, at the very least, his preferred philosophy for a European type of socialism. The Wall Street Journal even editorialized that the president is "subordinating to government the individual enterprise and risk-taking that underlies prosperity."

The truth is that Obama's statements in Virginia were in no way reminiscent of great capitalists and innovators. On the other hand, his words did smack of a few other societal manipulators:

QIDONG, China -- Angry demonstrators occupied a government office in eastern China on Saturday, destroying computers and overturning cars in a violent protest against an industrial waste pipeline they said would poison their coastal waters.

The demonstration was the latest in a string of protests sparked by fears of environmental degradation and highlights the social tensions the government in Beijing faces as it approaches a leadership transition this year.

Thousands of protesters marched through the coastal city of Qidong, roughly one hour north of Shanghai by car, shouting slogans against the planned pipeline that would empty waste from a paper factory in a nearby town into the sea.

Demonstrators rejected the government's stand that waste from the factory would not pollute the coastal waters.

"The government says the waste will not pollute the sea, but if that's true, then why don't they dump it into Yangtze River?" said Lu Shuai, a 25-year-old protester who works in logistics.

China's 7.6 percent growth rate is the lowest in three years ? but the country's economic problems appear more dire than the latest numbers indicate. Some believe the government will counter the downturn with a massive stimulus package, a strategy that has left China's local banks saddled with bad debt in the past. NBC's Ian Williams reports from Beijing.

"It is because if they dump it into the river, it will have an impact on people in Shanghai and people in Shanghai will oppose it."

The state-run Global Times newspaper quoted local residents who said the sewage discharge from the pipeline was expected to be as much as 150,000 tons per day, according to the AFP news agency.

Several protesters entered the city government's main building and were seen smashing computers, overturning desks and throwing documents out the windows to loud cheers from the crowd.

China begins to admit 'fog' is really smog

An AFP photographer described the scene, saying demonstrators seized bottles of liquor and wine from the offices, along with cartons of cigarettes -- all of which Chinese officials frequently receive as bribes.

Reuters witnessed five cars and one minibus being overturned. Over 1,000 police -- some paramilitary -- guarded the city government office compound in lines.

At least two police officers were dragged into the crowd at the government office and punched and beaten enough to make them bleed.

According to the AFP, searches including "Qidong" on China's popular microblogging site?Sina Weibo were blocked Saturday. Sina Weibo has over 250 million subscribers.

Earlier posts on Weibo and on Twitter indicated that the protesters had stripped the clothes off the local party secretary, but these reports could not be immediately verified.

On Friday, in an effort to stave off the protest, the Qidong city government announced it would suspend the project for further research.

But many protesters said on Saturday that postponement was not enough.

"If the government really wanted to stop this project, they should have done it right from the beginning. At this point they are too late," said Xi Feng, a 17-year-old protester.

Local officials took steps to ward off the demonstration and residents received text messages and letters warning that any public demonstration would be illegal.

Rising discontent
Environmental worries have stoked calls for expanded rights for citizens and greater consultation in the tightly controlled one-party state.

The outpouring of public anger is emblematic of the rising discontent facing Chinese leaders, who are obsessed with maintaining stability and struggling to balance growth with rising public anger over environmental threats.

The protest followed similar demonstrations against projects the Sichuan town of Shifang earlier this month and in the cities of Dalian in the northeast and Haimen in southern Guangdong province in the past year.

China tells US Embassy to stop reporting Beijing pollution

In Shifang, the government halted construction of a copper refinery following protests by residents that it would poison them. It also freed most of the people who were detained after a clash with police.

The leadership has vowed to clean up China's skies and waterways and increasingly tried to appear responsive to complaints about pollution. But environmental disputes pit citizens against local officials whose aim is to lure fresh investment and revenue into their areas.

Florida Ethics Commission Tosses Out Case Against Rubio

The Florida Commission on Ethics dismissed a complaint against Sen. Marco Rubio that accused him of breaching the public's trust and misusing his political position for personal gain.

The complaint, filed in 2010 by Michael Ryan, a Democratic donor from Fort Lauderdale, , charged that while he served as speaker of the Florida House, Rubio misused a state party credit card for personal expenses. Ryan also accused Rubio of using his political position to secure employment at a university and a hospital. Ryan based his claim on a number of newspaper reports.

These issues arose during Rubio's 2010 campaign for the Florida senate seat. He eventually won, but they're still considered among the controversies that could hurt Rubio's political stock down the line.

After the case sat unreviewed for nearly two years, Rubio asked the commission to drop the "baseless claim" in March, just as his name began to be floated as a potential vice presidential running mate. The commission decided today to dismiss the case, clearing him of any wrongdoing alleged in the complaint.

In April, Rubio admitted he made a "mistake" in the way he handled his state party card but emphasized that he did not bill any of the expenses to the Republican Party of Florida, but instead paid the credit card company directly for any mischarges.

"I did not bill personal expenses to the Republican Party of Florida. The Republican Party of Florida never paid my personal expenses. Never. But look, you know, I shouldn't have done it that way. It was a lesson learned," Rubio said in a Fox News interview in April. "It was a mistake. If I had to do it over again, I'd do it very differently."

"At the end of every month, we would get those statements. We would see what was on there that was party-related, and the party would pay that. If it wasn't party-related, I would pay that directly to American Express. Now, obviously, in hindsight, it looks bad, right? I mean, why are you using a party credit card at all? Well, some of these expenses were because a travel agent had the ? credit card number, and they billed it to that card instead of the other card. Sometimes, it was just a mistake, you know, literally just reached for the wrong card."

I?ve been a part of quite a few events, both in the organizational and promotional stages. With that in mind, here are a few tips on how to promote them via social media, based on my experiences:

1. Plan and Organize ? Like any other aspect of marketing, go in with a plan. Know what your goals are, identify your target audience, and have things mapped out. In particular, once you know where you audience is, determine which social platforms you will use. Sure, things will change, but you can adapt on the way.

2. Create your event properly on Facebook ? OK, so in the previous points I said you should plan and determine which social platforms you should use based on your audience, I jump right into Facebook. That?s because at this point, Facebook is almost a no-brainer for most businesses or non-profits, with 80% of U.S. adults online, and a high percentage of them on Facebook, it just makes sense.

As you create your Facebook event, make sure you include as much information as you can: title, date, time, any important details. Also include important links, including linking to your own website, as well as the various website of those involved, including possibly bands, donors, and the organization that is benefiting from the event. Make the details as specific as you can. And use pictures and videos if they fit. If you are using an event service like Eventbrite, Facebook has an app you can use to link to that properly.

Note: by nature, RSVPs to Facebook events tend to be ?fuzzy?. Just because someone says they are coming, doesn?t mean they are. Note: be selective as you invite. If the event is in Lancaster, and you have a friend in Kansas?probably best not to invite them. Invite your friends that you are pretty sure would be interested in this specific event.

4. Compliment your social with traditional ? As powerful as social media can be, don?t stop there. There is nothing wrong with a full marketing campaign with whatever elements you think will work and will fit into your budget. Use posters, as well as other traditional media, including PR, print, billboards, etc. On printed materials, you might want to use a QR Code to direct users to your event page.

11. Reminders ? As you get closer to the event, Facebook events give you the opportunity to reach out. Send messages to those who are attending, the ?maybes?, and all of the invitees. Use every tool that Facebook and other platforms give you. Many people make last minute decisions about events, so the last week is crucial.

12. Be Creative ? Think of unique ways of promoting the event. Are there local podcasts and bloggers who can promote the event? Perhaps you can stream the event live on Ustream. Another thing that often works is getting ?supporters? of your event to change their Facebook profile pictures and Twitter avatars to something related to your event, such as a logo or even a Twibbon.

Thanks to lax international tax rules the world?s super rich have siphoned at least $21 trillion -- more than 50 percent larger?than the entire U.S. economy -- into secretive tax-free havens, according to a study by UK campaign group Tax Justice Network.

The report by James Henry, a former economist at international consultancy McKinsey & Co., shows how with the help of private banks the money has flowed into countries such as Switzerland and the Cayman Islands.

?We?re basically talking about a black hole in the world economy,? Henry told NBCNews.com. ?

The figure of $21 trillion in off-shore funds is conservative and the true sum could be as high as $32 trillion, Henry said.

According to the study, the world?s top 50 private banks managed more than $12.3 trillion in 2010 in off-shore financial assets, up from $7.5 trillion five years earlier.

In 2010, the world?s top 10 financial institutions -- which today include the U.S.?s Goldman Sachs and JPMorganChase, as well as Switzerland?s UBS and Credit Suisse -- ?controlled about half of this amount. At least seven of these top 10 institutions received huge bailouts in the wake of the financial crisis, Henry said.?

?This isn?t a bunch of shady third-world banks -- these are some of the premier institutions in the world,? Henry said. ?JP Morgan, Citibank, Barclays, UBS -- the top 10 to 20 banks these are some of the ones who received most of the financial bailout, who were involved in the mortgage fiasco, the Libor rates scandal.?

?Now we find out that they have been spending a lot of time helping very wealthy people avoid taxes,? he added.

Indeed, the report comes at a troubling time for a banking industry reeling from a multi-country probe into the manipulation of global benchmark rates. Last month,?British bank Barclays agreed to pay a $453 million fine to settle a U.S.-British probe into the rigging of the interest rate known as the London interbank offered rate, or Libor, that affects debt from student loans?to mortgages.

That follows years of international turbulence and huge bailouts sparked by the subprime lending crisis in the United States.

While many of the tax-avoiding rich hail from developed countries in Europe and North America, the newly wealthy in developing countries, such as China and India, have siphoned off enough in the last 40 years to pay off their countries' respective debts, Henry said.

Growing anger at tax evasion
The report -- based on information from the Bank of International Settlements, International Monetary Fund, World Bank, and national governments -- comes amid growing international concern and anger about tax evasion. It is especially poignant as many countries are struggling under harsh austerity programs to reduce their debt burdens.

The issue jumped into the headlines earlier in July when a United States Senate report said that a "pervasively polluted" culture at global bank HSBC -- also named in the study -- helped clients move shadowy funds from the world's most dangerous and secretive corners, including Mexico, Iran, Saudi Arabia and Syria.

The failings and lax controls inside HSBC included an inability to properly monitor $15 billion in bulk cash transactions between mid-2006 and mid-2009, inadequate staffing and high turnover in the bank's compliance units, the Senate report said.

British tax expert John Whiting said he was skeptical that the amount being squirreled away by the very rich was quite large as the study claimed.

?As much as anything -- I have no alternative evidence -- the figures just seem so large,? said Whiting, who is tax policy director at the Chartered Institution of Taxation.

But whatever the exact figures, he said the issues raised in the report are real and deserve to be addressed.

?I?m not denying that this is a problem, it?s just the size of it,? he added. ?What is happening with all this money??

So while experts may disagree on the exact numbers, the study sheds light not only on how the murky world of off-shore tax havens, and the growing disparity between the super-rich and everybody else.

This sort of disparity can create popular resentment and eventually unrest, according to Paul De Grauwe, a prominent economist and professor at the London School of Economics.

?Fairness is essential to provide the glue to any system,? he told NBC News.com.? ?It is important to take out these excesses ? people will always try to evade taxes (but) when this has taken on proportions that we?ve seen today you can get violent reactions.?

In other words, while evasion and other similar schemes have likely been employed since governments first began levying taxes, the practices exposed in Henry?s report are likely to spark popular resentment given the austerity and crisis that many countries around the world are enduring.

?On one hand people are asked to cut their wages and live in poverty because banks have to be saved,? De Grauwe said. ??And these same banks use all sorts of tech to help superrich to evade taxes.??

NEW ORLEANS (AP) ? New Orleans Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma and lawyers for the NFL arrived at federal court Monday for a settlement conference in Vilma's lawsuit seeking to overturn his season-long suspension in the Saints bounty investigation.

Flanked by his attorneys as he headed into federal court, Vilma said he was" hoping we can get something accomplished."

The conference was closed to the public.

Vilma and Saints coach Sean Payton have been suspended for the 2012 season for their roles in a bounty program the NFL says targeted opposition players for three seasons.

Vilma wants a federal judge to overturn his suspension. He also has filed a defamation lawsuit against NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
